HAMMOND – Southeastern’s Lion Up Recovery program is inviting vendors to participate
in a Christmas market fundraiser. Roomie’s Merry Market will take place in the Pennington
Center Nov. 12, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Funds raised at this event will support scholarships for students returning to
college after transitioning into recovery from substance misuse or eating disorders.
Southeastern’s Lion Up Recovery program has been in place since 2018.
Through her work with the Hammond Junior Auxiliary, Lion Up Recovery Program
Director Annette Baldwin started a Christmas Market in 2017. When the Junior Auxiliary
elected not to host the event this year, Baldwin saw an opportunity to continue on
the success of the event and its fundraising potential.
“Students who are in recovery have often exhausted funding that would otherwise
have been used for college,” Baldwin said. “Scholarships help them complete their
education and become professionals in recovery. This program is not only helpful for
them to regain their footing as students.”
In addition to scholarships, Lion Up Recovery provides opportunities for students
to participate in sober activities and meet others who are practicing recovery. Baldwin
says that engagement is important to all students, and having like-minded individuals
around them is essential to their success.
Those interested in vending at Roomie’s Merry Market should visit southeastern.edu/admin/counseling/lionup-recovery/merry_market/index.html
to fill out an application by Sept. 30. Shoppers should mark the calendar for Nov.
