Art Exhibit
The Art Exhibit is a District only event unique to the Southeast Louisiana District
Literary Rally. Students may participate in this Art Exhibit regardless of whether
they are participating in another District Rally event. They are not required to
be enrolled in an art class in their high school, but each high school is only permitted
two entries per category. Judging is conducted by Southeastern’s Visual Arts Department staff
and each 1st place winner is awarded the Southeastern Freshman Scholastic Achievement
Award. The Art Exhibit is location in the 3rd Floor Ballroom of the Student Union.
Categories
I. Three Dimensional
II. Two Dimensional: Oil, Acrylic or Water Medium
III. Two Dimensional Color: Drawing, Print-Making, Photography, Digital Art
IV. Two Dimensional Black & White: Drawing, Print-Making, Photography, Digital Art
It is the high school Rally Coordinator’s responsibility to ensure that all art pieces
are registered under the appropriate category. Changes will not be made after that
year’s posted registration deadline. All pieces will be displayed and judged on the
day of District Rally in the category in which they were registered by the deadline.
Judging and Awards
Judging will take place at 10:15AM on the day of District Rally.
Judges will be provided by Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Visual Art + Design.
Medals, certificates and ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners
in each category. At the discretion of the judge, up to 5 honorable mentions may
also be awarded per category.
First place winners will receive the Southeastern Freshman Scholastic Achievement Award.
Guidelines
1. Each school will be limited to two entries per category.
2. The student need not be enrolled in an art class at their high school.
3. High school Rally Coordinator’s must register art participants when registering
all other District Rally participants.
4. All entries must be classified into one of the four categories specified above.
5. A student who exhibits in the art contest may also enter one of the other academic
testing areas.
6. The student need not be present to have his work displayed and judged.
7. This is not a state rally qualifying event, therefore winners of this event will
not compete at state rally.
Display Instructions
1. All art work must be ready to display. No easels, frames, hanging materials etc.
will be provided.
2. The artwork must be labeled with the student’s name, grade and school.
3. Participants will be given a card with their name, school, division and category.
This card will be needed to retrieve the artwork once judging is complete. Individuals
will not be allowed to retrieve art without the identifying card.
4. All artwork must be checked in by 9:00AM in the 3rd floor Ballroom of the Student
Union. The exhibit will be open for public viewing from 9:00AM until 10:15AM at which
point judging will begin.
5. All art pieces may be picked up by participants no earlier than 11:30AM. Winners
may be asked to stay later for pictures. Any art left after 1:00PM must be picked
up at the Office of Admissions the week following District Rally.
6. The Southeast Louisiana District Literary Rally and Southeastern Louisiana University
are not responsible for lost or stolen art.
