HAMMOND – As part of a grant from the National Wildlife Federation, researchers from Southeastern Louisiana University’s Lake Maurepas Monitoring Project will host a free lunch and learn event on Friday, June 21, in Manchac. The purpose of the grant is to publicize the monitoring efforts to the local community, including citizenry, local political leaders, non-profit environmental organizations, and business leaders.
Two sessions will be held at Middendorf’s Manchac, located at 30160 US-51, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then from 2 until 4 p.m. Capacity for each session is limited to 50 people, and each session includes lunch and a boat ride to one of the monitoring buoys on Lake Maurepas, weather permitting.
Director of the Lake Maurepas Monitoring Project Kyle Piller and Manager of Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station Robert Moreau will present the environmental monitoring objectives and data collected so far on Lake Maurepas in advance of any carbon capture and sequestration.
The lunch menu includes shrimp and smoked andouille jambalaya, Middendorf’s famous thin fried catfish, creamy coleslaw, mixed green salad, potato salad and hush puppies.
To register for the event, email [email protected] with the following information: name and number of attendees, session time, and affiliation. Slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis until both sessions are full.
