Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Business held its semi-annual awards ceremony for the Written Works of Excellence and Distinction Program honoring 22 outstanding students who excelled on papers written for class assignments during the fall 2024 semester.
The WOWED Program was created in 2019 to recognize students who have created the “best of the best” written individual and group projects, works or papers each semester. Established by former Dean Antoinette Phillips, the program seeks to advance the College of Business’ learning goal in regards to continually working to improve students’ written communication skills. This program is directed by Merritt Professor of Management David C. Wyld, who also helped create it.
Professor of Marketing and College of Business Dean Tará Lopez commended the students on their commitment to their projects.
“We had an outstanding group of students nominated for the WOWED program this semester. They represent the best of our students, and this program is a wonderful way to celebrate their work,” she said.
The semester’s WOWED honorees included the following: Elizabeth Beregi, a management major from Livingston; Madison Bowler, a strategic communications major from Pearl River; Kaleb Brown, a management major from St. James; Christian Buras, a finance major from Covington; Jonatan Chavez, an accounting major from Baker; Theresa K. Dries, an accounting major from Downers Grove, Ill.; Austin Cole Gibson, a finance major from Denham Springs; Estephanny Diaz Gobellan, an accounting major from Maurepas; Tyran Jones, a business administration major from Houma; Antoine Louvard, a marketing major from Maisons-Alfort, France; and Kirstin McGuire, a management major from Houma, and Malisa Paige Marsh, a marketing major from Gonzales.
Additional honorees included Shannon Bell Matthews, a marketing major from Ponchatoula; Kyleigh Overheim, a business administration major from Watson; Ava Phillips, a supply chain management major from Gonzales; Mattie Reed, a marketing major from St. Francisville; Jyrais Robinson, an accounting major from Hackley; Thomas Keist Samuel, an accounting major from Hammond; Maci Scivicque, a marketing major from Maurepas; Lillian Tullos, a business administration major from Denham Springs; Kasey Williams, a management major from Metairie; and Morgan Williams, a business administration major from Baton Rouge.
Praising the students for their efforts that earned them this distinction, Wyld said the 22 students perfectly exemplify the excellence students in the College of Business can achieve in producing high-quality communications.
“These students truly represent how the faculty in the College of Business are trying to provide our business students with high-quality educational opportunities that make an impact on their future careers. The students honored for their works in the WOWED awards program show how our College of Business students can deliver effective oral presentations and produce exemplary written works,” Wyld said. “Mastering communication skills is absolutely critical for career success in today’s world – and tomorrow’s, and these students exemplify the fine work that our students are doing in the College of Business across the board.”
