Dear Southeastern University Family,
I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed the historic snowfall experienced by our region over the last few days. Misty and I have appreciated the many photos shared by our students, faculty, and staff enjoying this unprecedented event. As we experience continued improvements in road conditions today, I want to remind all to use caution when venturing out.
I want to sincerely thank our University Police, Plant and Operations team members, Resident Advisors, university housing staff and our partners with Aramark who have worked around the clock and through the winter storm to ensure the safety and well being of our students on campus as well as securing and preparing our facilities for the bitter cold. I am pleased to report that after a full day of assessment today, the university is in good condition. For those working on campus and those students in resident halls on campus, please avoid areas with caution tape as they represent areas where we are continuing to identify potential slip hazards.
While much improvement in road conditions has taken place today, freezing conditions will continue to impact bridges and overpasses overnight, therefore causing travel issues for some students, faculty and staff. Therefore, Southeastern will continue with Remote Work and Learning Friday, January 24th with full operations anticipated to resume Saturday, January 25th.
I am asking essential staff to report to campus on Friday, January 24th to continue readiness for full operations on Saturday. If conditions Friday morning do not permit some essential staff members to return to campus, it is important that you communicate such to your supervisor.
While this week was not the traditional first week of the spring semester we had planned for, I want to thank our students, faculty, and staff for your patience, understanding, and support through remote work and learning to ensure the safety of our university family and the success of our mission.
Sincerely,
William S. Wainwright, Ph.D.
President
