North Oaks Sponsors Renovations of Athletic Training Facilities

By: Southeastern Louisiana University

On May 20, 2025, Southeastern and North Oaks Health System officially broke ground on the North Oaks Health System Academic and Athletic Complex. The initiative features a full renovation of the current 27,890-square-foot Dugas Center, along with a new 25,250-square-foot, two-story expansion designed to strengthen and support Southeastern Athletics.

The renovated facility will include upgraded administrative offices, a state-of-the-art sports medicine treatment center, modern classrooms for the growing Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program, a student commons, and a multi-purpose amphitheater ideal for academic presentations, team meetings, and campus events. The investment not only elevates the physical resources of the university but also enhances the academic and professional training that prepares students for real-world careers in sports medicine.

“The project focuses on creating a versatile environment that supports both academic development and athletic performance.”

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with our long-term partners at North Oaks to further enhance our sports medicine program,” said Southeastern President William S. Wainwright. “The project focuses on creating a versatile environment that supports both academic development and athletic performance.”

North Oaks Health System President and CEO Michelle Sutton added, “This partnership with Southeastern is a powerful example of what can be achieved when local institutions come together with a shared commitment to education, health, and community well-being. The new North Oaks Health System Academic and Athletic Complex will not only support student success but also contribute to a healthier, more vibrant region for generations to come.”

Gasaway, Gasaway, and Bankston Architects are serving as architects for the project, with Voelkel McWilliams as the general contractor.
