Simulation Lab Training Partnership Supports North Oaks Medical Residents
By: Southeastern Louisiana University
Residents in the North Oaks Health System Graduate Medical Education Program are taking their clinical training to the next level through an innovative partnership with Southeastern’s School of Nursing. Utilizing the university’s state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation labs, medical residents are able to practice real-world patient care in a controlled environment that mirrors the complexities of modern clinical settings.
The simulation labs, equipped with lifelike patient mannequins capable of exhibiting a wide range of medical symptoms and responses, allow residents to sharpen their diagnostic skills, critical thinking abilities, communication, and teamwork. Under the guidance of experienced faculty and simulation specialists, participants are challenged to assess patient conditions, make treatment decisions, and carry out procedures as they would in an actual healthcare scenario.
Michele K. Sutton, president/CEO of North Oaks Health System, said, “North Oaks greatly values its partnership with Southeastern, and we’re excited to see our residents benefit from the advanced simulation technology at Southeastern’s lab. This hands-on experience is an important new dimension of our ongoing collaboration and is truly invaluable to their training. At North Oaks, our mission is simple yet impactful: improving lives, every time, every touch—and opportunities like this help us fulfill that promise.”
The collaboration between North Oaks Health System and Southeastern reflects a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes and strengthening the regional healthcare workforce. As demand for highly skilled medical professionals continues to rise, this partnership helps ensure that new physicians enter the field ready to meet the challenges of today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
“We are proud to support this partnership and help train the next generation of medical providers,” said Dr. Ann Carruth, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. “Our simulation labs provide an invaluable bridge between the classroom and clinical practice, making a measurable difference in professional confidence and competence.”
By combining academic expertise, cutting-edge simulation technology, and clinical training in a collaborative model, North Oaks and Southeastern are working together to prepare healthcare professionals who are not only knowledgeable, but capable, confident, and ready to make an immediate impact in the communities they serve.
