ARO: Alternate Responsible Officer. Acts as an advisor and maintains SEVIS record of J-1 exchange visitors.
DHS: Department of Homeland Security. Has jurisdiction over immigration services as well as other functions.
DS-2019: Issued by foreign student advisor for students who wish to apply for the J-1 exchange student/scholar visa.
DSO: Designated School Official. Acts as an advisor and maintains SEVIS record of F-1 students.
I-20: Issued by foreign student advisor for students who wish to apply for the F-1 visa. Notes program of study and duration of status.
I-94: A Department of Homeland Security Arrival/Departure Record issued to aliens who are admitted to the U.S., who are adjusting status while in the U.S., or extending their stay, among other things.
NOTE: Changes to the process of receiving I-94 Admission number went into effect in April 2013. Please go to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for information on how to obtain your number.
ICE: Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Responsible for immigration inspections, border patrol, and customs services.
PDSO: Principle Designated School Official.
RO: Responsible Officer.
SEVIS: (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) A web-based solution, to track and monitor schools and programs, students, exchange visitors and their dependents while approved to participate in the U.S. education system.
