Marc Settembrino, Ph.D.

Dr. Marc Settembrino is a Professor of Sociology at Southeastern Louisiana University. They earned their Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Central Florida and their M.A. in Sociology from the University of South Florida. Their research explores social movements, disasters, gender, and sexuality, with particular attention to how LGBTQ+ people build and sustain community in rural areas. They also examine drag performance as a tool for community building, resilience, and visibility. Dr. Settembrino’s scholarship has been published in leading journals and informs both academic inquiry and grassroots advocacy.

At Southeastern, Dr. Settembrino teaches courses on sexuality and gender, research methods, social theory, and social movements. They also serve as faculty advisor for the Lavender Lions, the university’s LGBTQ+ student organization. In both teaching and service, they are committed to helping students develop critical sociological perspectives and empowering them to build inclusive communities.
