The Deep Roots of Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust: From the Ancient World to the Early Twentieth Century
Speaker – William B. Robinson
Yom Hashoah occurs on 27 Nisan in the Hebrew calendar, which is May 6 in 2024, the day final exams begin; therefore, HIPS will observe it on April 30. The Department Head will discuss how ethnic stereotyping, religious prejudice, royal avarice, and superstition created anti-Semitism and led to ethnic cleansing and violence against Jews in the ancient world, the Middle Ages, and the modern era and why, sadly, the Holocaust was not a unique event even in the last hundred years.
