Department of Kinesiology and Health StudiesDr. Emily Dow joined Southeastern Louisiana University in 2025 as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Sport Management, bringing nearly two decades of higher education teaching experience from institutions including the University of the Incarnate Word, the University of Louisiana Monroe, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she has served in both faculty and leadership roles.
Dr. Dow earned her Doctor of Education from the University of Louisiana Monroe, a Master of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University. She also completed additional graduate study work at California University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Adapted Physical Educator.
Her teaching and research focus on sport management, adapted physical activity, drowning prevention, inclusive education, and the role of emerging technologies such as generative AI in higher education. She has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented nationally and internationally on topics including adaptive sport, unified play, and health education integration.
Dr. Dow serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of the International Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Dance, and Sport and is an active member of SHAPE America, the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities, and the Association of Teacher Educators. She has built strong partnerships with organizations such as Special Olympics and the Mitchell Chang Foundation, using these collaborations to create meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for students while advancing access to health and wellness programs in the community.
A dedicated advocate for service, Dr. Dow has led and supported initiatives ranging from drowning prevention education to inclusive sport programming, as well as volunteer projects through schools, churches, and nonprofits. Her leadership and commitment to both students and the community have been recognized through multiple honors, including the UIW Provost’s Legacy in Teaching Award (2023), Advisor of the Year for the Special Olympics College Club (2024), and the Fellowship for Teaching and Learning with AI (2024).
At Southeastern, Dr. Dow contributes her expertise in sport management and her commitment to student engagement, experiential learning, and community partnerships that reflect the university’s mission of excellence in teaching and service.
