Becoming a DPP Student Ambassador

This program allows our dance minors the opportunity to gain professional leadership experience by serving other dance students within Southeastern’s contemporary dance company, Dance Performance Project, in preparation for a future career within the concert dance and studio management fields. Each DPP Student Ambassador will work directly with the Director of Dance in the areas of auditions, rehearsals, meetings, workshops, marketing, poster/program design, and concert/studio management.

How it is awarded:

DPP Student Ambassador must be fully be immersed in our dance curriculum with a dance minor.
DPP Student Ambassador must be an active part of the Dance Performance Project for a minimum of three semesters.
Each DPP Student Ambassador will only hold this leadership role for one semester with only one selected per semester.
Based upon seniority so that many will get this real-world-ready opportunity.
Director of Dance will announce the new DPP Student Ambassador at the end of each semester.

Fall 2024: Elizabeth Birkel

During my time as the Fall 2024 Dance Performance Project Senior Ambassador, I was able to learn several important skills I will be able to use in the future. Being the first named Ambassador, I did not have any guidance from previous ones to aid me in my duties. Learning alone with the assistance of my Company Director, Professor Skip I was able to formulate a way of doing things that worked for me. One of the greatest skills I was able to better myself in was time management. The Company was reliant on me to get information to them. I would have to ensure that emails, schedules, and other information was sent out in a timely order to the Company to have time to plan and prepare. Another important skill I used frequently during my time was technology. I was in charge of making rehearsal schedules, performance lineups, and
hair and makeup requirement lists. I was able to make these look appealing along with ensuring I add all the required information given to me from Professor Skip. I am truly grateful for this experience and opportunity to work under Professor Skip and together with the Company. I encountered many valuable life lessons that will stay with me forever.
