This gives an overview of our animal ambassadors we have brought and an intro to their natural environment. We will also go over why programs like this help make a connection for people that can’t experience these animals in the wild.

Dr. Heintz is Board Certified in psychiatry and specializes in treating patients with mood, psychotic and anxiety disorders. He will discuss the fascinating studies that demonstrate the dramatic mental and physical health benefits that nature experiences and urban greenspaces provide to individuals and communities.

Explore Nature: The Feather Makes The Bird
The presentation begins with a discussion of the fossil record that experts believe show birds evolved over 160 million years ago from dinosaurs. Feather evolution and current feather structure will also be illustrated. Feather samples and discussion of how birds have been used through many cultures for decorative purposes, including up to today.

Birds In Our Backyard
James Pellerin, Jr., SLU Alumni and co-owner of the Backyard Birds and Gardens located in Covington, LA will share information about the common backyard birds found in South Louisiana. He will also provide information on the best plants to attract these songbirds and how you can enhance your yard to be a habitat for the birds. James C Pellerin Jr has retired after 41 years in Animal Health Industry. He is also Co-Owner of the Backyard Birds and Gardens, as well as, Delgado Community College Advisory Committee Member Veterinary Technician program and has his B. S. degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Animal Science.

Habitat Gardening With Native Plants For Any Garden Space
In the spirit of Doug Tallamy, and Home Grown National Park, Wild Ones Greater Baton Rouge Chapter is encouraging and assisting anyone with any space outside of their doors to use plants that make a difference to our ecosystem. This presentation will highlight creative means to use the space you have no matter how small or large, no matter your skill, resources or physical ability. If you have the desire to make a difference in supporting biodiversity, be it by rewilding your land, planting containers on your apartment balcony, or to help create corridors to patch together our home-grown national park, Wild Ones GBR is here to assist you.
