About Southeastern STILE

STILE is an outreach initiative of the Southeastern College of Science & Technology.

The mission of STILE is to provide inclusive and equitable opportunities for all youth to engage in high-quality experiential learning that inspires and prepares them for the pursuit and successful completion of post-secondary STEM programs meeting the economic needs of Louisiana.

While 58% of Louisiana’s jobs are STEM intensive, only 10% of high school students meet the necessary benchmarks to be considered STEM-ready, according to the ACT.

Interactive learning provides opportunities to develop well-rounded skills preparing students for success through college and into the workforce. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and self-management are just a few of the essential employability skills sought by the high-pay, high-demand STEM industries and developed through our programs.

STILE programs provide opportunities for youth to network and build long-lasting professional relationships with peers, college students, faculty, and industry partners. Innovation and synergy are hallmarks of the STEM workplace and workforce of today and tomorrow. Developing ‘communities of practice’ and ‘social capital’ for all youth through quality interactions fosters the innovation and synergy needed for vibrant communities and economies.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, STILE@Home brings quality opportunities to youth and families where they are to continue to support youth development now and into the future.

Louisiana GEAR UP

STILE/GEAR UP is a Connect 2 Success partnership with Louisiana GEAR UP to serve students of the graduating classes of 2022 and 2023 with mentoring, academic opportunities and guidance for college and career readiness in STEM related fields.

In partnership with 16 school districts, LA GEAR UP aims to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

Science Fridays

Southeastern University’s Louisiana GEAR UP is sponsoring multidisciplinary interactive STEM Powwows at participating Louisiana GEAR UP Highschools in the surrounding districts.

Physics professor, Dr. Troy Williams will be traveling to select LGU schools near Southeastern to deliver hands-on STEM demonstrations and activities which are aligned to Louisiana Science Standards.

We can visit your science classes only, the entire school, or another idea you have in mind- we customized our visit to best suit your students and their interest in STEM.
