Welcome Back - Fall 2022

Welcome to an exciting new academic year at Southeastern!

It will be great to see students, both new and returning, fill the campus with energy.  I also look forward to faculty and staff continuing their vital work in support of our students’ collective success as they bring Southeastern’s core values of excellence and caring to life every day.

To help ensure a successful semester, please review the following important updates.

COVID-19

While COVID-19 is still with us, the virus and our responses have evolved significantly since the beginning of the pandemic.  Vaccination and prior infections have helped reduce the likelihood current cases will result in severe illness or hospitalization. 

Free vaccines remain available through many community healthcare providers, including local pharmacies.  Those who are concerned about possible infection can also protect themselves by wearing a mask when around others.  N-95 or KN-95 masks are most effective at preventing infection and are widely available, including at the University Health Center.

Daily self-monitoring for symptoms is still important, and anyone who is feeling ill should avoid exposing others to potential infection.  Rapid tests for COVID-19, including home tests, are readily available, including at local pharmacies and the University Health Center.

Campus Safety

Concern for the health, safety and well-being of faculty, staff and students is of paramount importance.  To help keep everyone informed in the event of an emergency, please make sure that you have registered through LEONet to receive emergency alerts from the University. 

Officers with the University Police Department are on duty 24/7 to help ensure a safe campus environment.  Lion Safe is the new official safety app for Southeastern and can be downloaded at no cost from the app store for your device.  Lion Safe provides easy access to multiple safety services, including virtual safety walks and alerts.

Campus Parking and Transportation

There have been several recent changes in parking for students, faculty, and staff, particularly as a result of construction in and around D Vickers Hall near the center of campus.  Please plan accordingly prior to arriving on campus. 

Additional information about campus parking, as well as the Lion Traxx shuttle system can be obtained through Transportation Services.
