ALEKS – Placement, Preparation and Learning Assessment

Southeastern Louisiana University accepts ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) Assessment to determine readiness for mathematics courses. ALEKS PPL uses AI to determine the topics the student knows.

The ALEKS PPL score is not transferable between universities. Students must take the placement test with Southeastern in order to place into courses at Southeastern.

The assessment is up to 30 questions and generally takes 60-90 minutes to complete.

ALEKS consists of three parts:

·         An unproctored assessment (practice test);

·         Prep and Learning Module (ALEKS customizes this according to your results on the unproctored assessment); and

·         The proctored assessment. (You have 4 attempts, and the highest score counts.)

Students are strongly encouraged to spend time working in the Prep and Learning Module, even if the desired score is achieved on the practice test. The unproctored assessment will help the student determine what they need to work on, and the Prep and Learning Module provides practice to review these topics.

The results of the Placement Assessment results will be used to determine the most appropriate course for the student. After taking a Placement Assessment, students should meet with their advisor to review their results and enroll in the best classes based on their scores.

There is no benefit to cheating on the Placement Assessment – the only result will be that a student enrolls in a class that is too difficult, or not challenging enough, potentially costing time and money.

The video of your proctored assessment will be carefully reviewed. To avoid having your score invalidated,

·       Take the test in an environment without constant background noise.

·       Do not use your phone for any reason.

·       Keep your face in view of the camera.
