Barbara Gibbs is an Instructor of Nursing with Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing. She earned her BN in nursing then went on to earn her MSN in Nursing Education, both at SLU. She has been a nurse educator for over 15 years.
Her experience includes practicing as a medical/surgical nurse in a local hospital. Later she taught practical nurse students for 3 years at Northshore Technical Community College then started at SLU SON after completing her MSN.
She has taught across the program with a focus in fundamental courses. These courses are primary assessment and fundamental of nursing. She was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners in 2014 as one of two RN positions and now serves as Secretary/Treasurer. The board rules on PN Schools on Nursing and disciplinary cases for practicing LPNs.
With the SON, she also serves on the Progression and Retention committee along with Standardized Testing, a committee serving student NCLEX practice resources for NCLEX success.
