Fontenot’s primary training is in Evolutionary Ecology, Vertebrate Morphology, and Herpetology. He is Coordinator of Human Anatomy and Physiology, and generally teaches A&P and Comparative Anatomy courses.
He has two main areas of research interest and expertise: He began studying the ecology of snakes since 1990, which led to a particular interest in how their unique vision system influences their ability to see clearly (and feed) in both air and underwater; and he has conducted research (intermittently since 1987) on the ecology and reproductive biology of the giant aquatic salamander, Amphiuma tridactylum.
Dr. Fontenot holds three degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University: BS (Zoology), AS (Computer Science), and MS (Biological Sciences), plus a Ph.D. (Ecology and Evolution) from University of California – Santa Barbara.
