Dr. Coletta C. Barrett is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU). A nurse executive with more than 48 years of experience, she was the inaugural graduate of Southeastern’s BSN-to-DNP- Executive Leadership program. Coletta holds an MHA from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Barrett was the 2004 Alumnus of the Year for Southeastern Louisiana University. A Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Heart Association, Dr. Barrett is nationally recognized for her leadership in health advocacy and policy, nursing workforce innovation, and collective impact initiatives that improve population health. Her executive leadership experience includes National Chairman of the Board of the American Heart Association and C suite positions at Baton Roge General, Louisiana Hospital Association and Our Lady of the Lake Health. To address predatory lending practices, she co-founded with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge and New Orleans Fireman’s Federal Credit Union, The Faith Fund, a micro-lending alternative to end pay-day lending hold on vulnerable populations.
