DeJuan James

A Hammond native and two-time graduate of Southeastern, DeJuan 'DJ' James is an Academic Advisor in the Honors Program. His time as a Lion started with his parents, before eventually pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. In his undergrad years, he spent time as a 2018 Orientation Leader, Campus Tour Guide, Resident Assistant, Lions Connected Mentor, and Ambassador for the Department of Teaching & Learning. He was also very active with Southeastern's Theatre Department, participating in eleven mainstage shows in his undergraduate career, as well as several shows for Alpha Psi Omega, the university's National Theatre Honor Society, where he has previously served as Treasurer, President, and as a Committee Head. He currently serves as the Faculty Advisor, while still finding opportunities to perform in Hammond, Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and more.

Dr. Narro will often say 'DJ was the big plant in Little Shop of Horrors at the Columbia Theatre'. This means I was Audrey II, the big plant in Little Shop of Horrors. Just in case she ever mentions it, you'll know what she's referring to. :)

He pursued his Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration of Elementary Education while working full-time as an Admissions Recruiter. With his background in Admissions, as well as from being an Orientation Leader and Tour Guide, his knowledge can assist students in knowing where to go to get what they need for various campus resources. After his time in Admissions, he moved over to the First-Year Success office, where he got the opportunity to advise first-year students as well as teach the SE 1010 & 1017 course.

He's excited to be with the Honors Program and is looking forward to working with our students!
