Dr. Laurie Kinchen, DNP, Associate Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Science. Dr. Laurie Kinchen holds a Doctorate Degree from University of South Alabama (July 2012). A Master of Science of Nursing from University of South Alabama (December 2004), and a Bachelor of Science from Southeastern Louisiana University (December 2000).

Research Interests:
Pediatric Obesity prevention and treatment options.
STI Awareness and Screening Program in college students.
Childhood Mental Health Disorders and treatment options.

Key Accomplishments:
Multiple journal publications. Honored to receive a Service Award of 15 years at Southeastern Louisiana University (Fall 2024). I served as Counselor of Sigma Theta Tau-Rho Zeta Chapter. I also served as Graduate Coordinator (2018-2021). I was honored to receive the Professional Traineeship Grant and serve as a preceptor/mentor to foster the next generation of nurse practitioners.

Area of Expertise

My teaching responsibilities include Advanced Practice Nursing: Family Health I, a preceptorship/clinical course for Nurse Practitioner students. This course is designed to develop competencies for advanced care of pediatric and child-bearing women populations. I also serve as the course coordinator and faculty in Pathophysiology for Advanced Practice and Population Based Primary Care.
