Dr. Luanne Billingsley is a full professor at the School of Nursing. She has over 15 years of clinical experience and has worked at Southeastern for more than 18 years. Her focus is on identifying and integrating emerging healthcare technologies into education, with a particular emphasis on collaboration, implementation science, and sustainable quality improvement initiatives in both clinical and academic settings. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of South Alabama, building on her Master of Science in Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. She also obtained an MBA from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she previously completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This combination of advanced clinical training and business knowledge informs her patient-centered, outcomes-focused approach to care and leadership. Dr. Billingsley also holds a portfolio of relevant professional certifications demonstrating her leadership in nursing education, quality, and health technology. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and a Board-Certified Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, and she maintains her Louisiana APRN license through ongoing recertification. Her interdisciplinary expertise also includes credentials as a Project Management Professional and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality.
Dr. Billingsley has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and regularly invites students and faculty to collaborate on manuscripts. She consistently presents her scholarly work at state, regional, national, and international conferences. She served as the first DNP Coordinator and led the program through its initial accreditation survey. She has collaborated on numerous grants with the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, including serving as the Director of the Louisiana Digital Institute. She previously held the Epic Endowed Professorship, which allowed her to expand her work in interprofessional education and collaboration.
She is interested in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into nursing education and clinical decision support, as well as in applying guidelines. Additionally, she focuses on change management strategies, implementation science, stakeholder involvement, and sustainability planning.
Dr. Billingsley promotes teaching excellence through flexible methods that incorporate current technologies such as telehealth, AI, and virtual reality. She supports her approach with open communication and ongoing professional development. She has tailored her teaching strategies for the AI era by adopting a collaborative, student-led learning model that emphasizes critical thinking, ethical technology use, and real-world application.
She teaches graduate-level courses on leadership, business, policy, and health informatics. She mentors DNP students during their residency courses in system-level change management, project design, quality improvement, and technology integration with DNP projects, preparing graduates to excel as master's and doctoral professionals, lifelong learners, and compassionate clinicians.
