Dr. Nicholas Otranto is an instructor in the Department of English and World Languages. He teaches courses in Composition, English and American Literature, and Honors Critical Reading and Writing. Dr. Otranto holds a PhD in Literature from the Institute of Philosophic Studies at the University of Dallas, and he studies and writes about Home, Domesticity, and Belonging in American literature and culture. He specializes in the life and works of Mark Twain, and his research in this area has received multiple awards, including a residency fellowship at Twain’s summer home, Quarry Farm, in Elmira, NY.
American Literature, with a primary focus on Mark Twain’s role as and depictions of American outsiders. His expertise also includes the American Renaissance, Toni Morrison’s philosophy and literary theory, and the emerging study of American Belonging.
