Dr. Penny Thomas serves as an Associate Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, teaching in the graduate nursing program. Dr. Thomas’s primarily teaches courses in the family nurse practitioner tract. Additionally, she serves as second reader or second faculty on students quality improvement or doctoral projects.

Dr. Thomas completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1997 and her Master of Science in Nursing Education at Southeastern in 2005. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing-FNP from the University of South Alabama in 2014 followed by her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama in 2016.

Dr. Thomas serves as the Northshore representative for the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Association.

Area of Expertise

Dr. Thomas’s research interests include community health, student health, obesity and weight management, and student success. She has published in both the Journal of Doctoral Nursing practice and American Nurse Journal as well as others.
