Effler has been an Instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Southeastern since 2011. Effler has a Ph.D. in Entomology from Louisiana State University and a M.S. from Southeastern Louisiana University. Her primary teaching focus at Southeastern is Human Anatomy and Physiology. Prior to her time at Southeastern, Dr. Effler was an Instructor at Louisiana State University in Department of Biology and Entomology. Dr. Effler was a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the University of Georgia - Marine Institute.

Areas of Expertise
Forested Wetland Ecology and Forest Entomology, with specialization on the impact of altered hydrology, saltwater intrusion, and insect defoliation of bald cypress and tupelo canopies. Working collaboratively with the U.S. Forest Service and Georgia Department of Natural Resources Dr. Effler studied the interactions of the Red Bay Ambrosia Beetle and large mammal browsing on the forest structure on Sapelo Island. Dr. Effler was the lead author on a book chapter in “Ecology of Tidal Freshwater Forested Wetlands of the Southeastern United States” highlighting her dissertation research in Lake Maurepas Swamp.
