Dr. Terrence Tsang is an Assistant Professor of Physics in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on improving the performance of gravitational-wave detectors through advanced control systems. He has contributed to both the LIGO and KAGRA collaborations and is an active member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, presenting his work at international conferences.

Area of Expertise

Dr. Tsang teaches Algebra- and Calculus-based General Physics courses and their laboratory counterparts. His expertise is in control systems, automation, and reducing noise in large-scale physics experiments. He has developed new algorithms to make gravitational-wave detectors more stable and reliable. At Southeastern, Dr. Tsang is building a tabletop version of LIGO and a suspension system model to test new control methods and demonstrate how seismic isolation impacts detector stability. He is also exploring how modern control approaches, including artificial intelligence (AI), can make future detectors even more robust.
