Department of Sociology and Criminal JusticeTommie Sorrell is a lecturer of criminal justice in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. She earned both a Master's of Science in Applied Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Southeastern Louisiana University.
She has more than thirty-years of diverse experience working in the criminal justice system. She served as a military police officer in the United States Army, a law enforcement officer in her hometown of Bogalusa retiring with the rank of Captain, and served as the Captain over criminal investigations for the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. She currently is a District Attorney Investigator for the 22nd District Attorney’s Office. Ms. Sorrell is a graduate of the 257th Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. After completing her master’s degree at Southeastern, she began lecturing criminal justice courses and enjoys giving insight into the next generation of emerging professionals. She has proudly assisted many of her former students in securing employment in the criminal justice field.
Ms. Sorrell's research interests focus on dimensions of homicide; gender influences of crime, victimization, and experiences within the legal system; recidivism; and specialty courts.
