Rec Sports and Wellness recently launched a program to equip Southeastern students with the knowledge and skills needed to educate, promote and discuss wellness among students on campus.

Student Wellness Ambassadors serve as liaisons between Rec Sports and Wellness and the community by assisting with health and wellness events and campaigns such as health fairs, Late Night Southeastern, the Ghost Chase 5K race and other initiatives.

These ambassadors are nominated by Southeastern faculty or staff members for their strong communications skills, passion for educating and helping others, and willingness to listen and learn new skills. If selected, ambassadors commit to volunteering in this role for one semester.

"Since I'm a nursing major, health and wellness is very important to me. Being a wellness ambassador helps me to emphasize to other people how important staying healthy is not only physically but mentally and spiritually," said Ashlin Hinojosa, a sophomore in nursing who served as an ambassador during the fall 2014 semester.

This spring, Student Wellness Ambassadors will assist with events such as Spring Daze, Wellness Wednesdays and more. Those interested in becoming an ambassador should contact Dollie Hebert to learn more.
