William S. Wainwright, Ph.D.

President Wainwright, Ph.D.

Dr. William Wainwright was appointed President of Southeastern Louisiana University on April 27, 2023. Prior to serving in this role, he served as Chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College beginning in August 2011. In 2018, Dr. Wainwright accepted the Interim Appointment of Chancellor of Delgado Community College to lead the college through the search for a new Chancellor. He officially returned to his post as Chancellor of NTCC July 1, 2019. Dr. Wainwright began his higher education career as a faculty member and grant writer. He later served in various leadership positions within the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. He is committed to talent development and driven by a passion to ensure access and opportunity to higher education for Louisiana’s citizens.

Career Highlights include Institute for Citizens & Scholars Higher Education Policy Fellow, Harvard Institute for Educational Management Fellow, Salzburg Global Leadership Institute Fellow, Accreditation Consultant for Jeddah Community College in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and publication in The Community College Journal of Research and Practice.

Dr. Wainwright currently serves as a board member of GNO, Inc., United Way of Southeast Louisiana, the Northshore Business Council, St. Tammany Corporation Board of Commissioners, and Northshore Community Foundation. He is also a member of Leaders for a Better Louisiana, formerly known as the Committee of 100 for Economic Development.

He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of New Orleans, a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Northwestern State University and Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He resides in Hammond, LA, and he and his wife Misty have two children, Zachary and Ella-Grace.
