Curriculum Review

Curriculum Review at Southeastern

The curriculum review process is designed to ensure the integrity of curricula and credit-bearing courses offered by Southeastern Louisiana University. The review of curriculum, catalog, and course change proposals at various levels from program faculty through the Provost ensures that we adhere to relevant University, University of Louisiana System, and Louisiana Board of Regents policies as well as relevant SACSCOC principles of accreditation. The review process includes but is not necessarily limited to consideration of the appropriateness of academic terms, program length, program/course content, course level, course sequencing, prerequisites/corequisites, and amount of course credit to be granted.

All curriculum changes, which include, but are not limited to, new degree programs, changes to degree programs, new courses, course changes, catalogue entry changes or course deletions, begin in the department requesting the change. For additional information please refer to the following:

Southeastern’s University Curriculum Council (UCC) is the final committee to review all curriculum changes and makes recommendations directly to the Provost. Regardless of the recommendation from the UCC, the Provost makes the final curricular decision for all additions, deletions and changes to the University Catalog. All curriculum proposals are created in and routed through Modern Campus Curriculum.

Modern Campus Curriculum (Curriculog) is the curriculum management software that Southeastern uses to create, approve, and track curriculum change proposals. Curriculog integrates with Modern Campus Acalolog, the software Southeastern uses to publish and maintain its catalog, as well as Workday.

Users create proposals that specify changes to programs, courses, and other curriculum and describe the reason that those changes improve upon the current curriculum. As the proposal advances through the automated workflow, approvers have the opportunity to comment on the proposal and advance it to subsequent approvers or return it to the author for revisions.

Curriculog allows users to build or change programs and courses using data that already exists in the catalog for the current academic year.  The Registrar’s office is then able to import the approved changes back into the draft catalog for the next academic year AND into Workday. Curriculog thus replaces the manual edit/correction process to programs and courses. While the creation of the proposal and the steps to approval are automated, it is still necessary to write specific, thoughtful rationales for the proposed changes and to submit all information that is requested.

While Curriculog is not a complicated system to use, it is new for Southeastern users. As a result, one-on-one training sessions are being conducted with anyone submitting curriculum proposals or anyone who is responsible for reviewing proposals in the approval process. To set up your personalized training session, please submit an email request to [email protected].
