Admission Information

The DNP Program admits students only in the Fall semester.  The program is now accepting applications for Fall 2017.  Completed applications are due April 1, 2017, for Post-MSN DNP and BSN to DNP.

POST-MSN DNP Program:

Checklist of materials to be submitted for application to the Post MSN DNP Program:

  1. APPLY to the university for graduate school and submit materials requested (for example, immunization documentation).  You may use this link. 
  2. HAVE all Official Transcripts from every degree granting college or university previously attended sent to Southeastern, Office of Admissions, Box 10752, Hammond, LA 70402. 
  3. COMPLETE the Following Online Graduate Student Information Form
    DNP Student Information 
  4. SUBMIT the following to the Graduate Nursing Office in any of the following options: Mailing Address - Box 10448, Hammond, LA 70402 - Fax - 985-549-5087 - Email - gradnursadmin@selu.edu.
    1. Evidence of current, unencumbered U.S. nursing licensure Licensure Verification (no restrictions)i. RN licenseii. APRN license, if applicable
    2. Current resume or curriculum vitae including the applicant's full name, address, telephone number(s), email address(s), academic preparations, degrees held, honors, awards, special interest, work history, and other relevant information.
    3. Verification of clinical hours from MSN Program/s using this form.
    4. A Statement of Purpose, prepared by the applicant which addresses the following:
      1. applicant's goals for doctoral study which are congruent with DNP Program goals (See The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice which can be accessed at www.aacn.nche.edu/publications/position/DNPEssentials.pdf),
      2. focused area of interest for a DNP Project
      3. how acquiring the DNP degree is important to fulfillment of the applicant's career goals. The document must be typewritten, double-spaced, in 12-point, Times New Roman font and should be no longer than three pages in length.
    5. Three recommendation statements using the Recommendation Form from individuals who can attest to the applicant's capacity for doctoral study:
      1. One recommendation statement must be from a former faculty member in a nursing program, a current or former nursing supervisor or nursing leader
      2. One recommendation statement must be from someone who can attest to the competencies and expertise of the applicant at the Advanced Practice level.
      3. The third recommendation statement may be from an individual of the applicant's choice, however, the individual should address the applicant's ability to successfully complete doctoral nursing education program.

 

All documentation needed for application to the DNP Program must be submitted prior to the application deadline. 

 

BSN to DNP:

Checklist of Materials to be submitted for application to the Graduate Nursing Program:

  1. Apply to the university for graduate school through the www.selu.edu and submit materials requested (for example, immunization form).
  2. HAVE all official transcripts sent to Southeastern, Office of Admissions, Box 10752, Hammond LA  70402.
  3. Official GRE scores must be provided to evaluate your application packet.
  4. SUBMIT the following to the Graduate Nursing Office in a single envelope (address below).
    • DNP Student Information Print form upon completion and include with other documents.
    • A curriculum vita (resume) including the applicant's full name, address, telephone number(s), email address(s), academic preparations, degrees held, honors, awards, special interest, work history, and relevant information.
    • Evidence of a valid, unencumbered Louisiana Registered Nurse license. Licensure Verification
    • A Statement of Purpose, prepared by the applicant which addresses the following:
    •  applicant's goals for doctoral study which are congruent with DNP Program
    • program goals (See The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing
    • Practice which can be accessed at www.aacn.nche.edu/publications/position/DNPEssentials.pdf
    • ii.  focused area of interest for a DNP Project
    • iii. how acquiring the DNP degree is important to fulfillment of the applicant's career goals.  The document must be typewritten, double-spaced, in 12-point, Times New Roman font and should be no longer thatn three pages in length.
    • Two Letters of Recommendation (using the recommendation form) from individuals who can attest to the applicant's capacity and commitment for study at the masters' level and potential for academic success.  One letter should be from a former faculty and the other from a nursing supervisor.  Each recommendation form must be enclosed in a sealed envelope with the recommender's signature over the seal of the envelope.
