The mission of Southeastern Louisiana University Laboratory School is to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure students reach their full potential by providing rigorous and challenging experiences that help our children become productive citizens.
Our school motto, "Proper Preparation Promotes Peak Performance," is a belief that we value as a school family. We believe that being well-prepared to meet any challenge and to face the world is one of the foundations for success as students and citizens.
We are a very unique school in the sense that we are a collaborative effort of the Tangipahoa Parish School System and Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development. Our school is accredited by the Louisiana State Department of Education and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
We were established as the "Training School" and opened our doors on January 16, 1940.
Louisiana Legislative Act No. 6 funded the laboratory school concept in 1938. Our
faculty and staff are proud to be a part of an educational heritage that has nurtured
the mental, social, and physical growth of children, youth, and adults for over sixty

We are located in the Southeastern Louisiana University Charles E. Cate Teacher Education Center, which is a specially designed learning facility including instructional classroom areas, music, art and physical education facilities, a media center, a science laboratory, a story theater, and a computer lab.
There are 227 students that attend our school from kindergarten through the eighth grade. We have one section of each grade level and offer not only the standard educational courses, but also art, physical education, and music. Students can participate in the Edgenuity Spanish courses from home. Many of our students participate in the gifted program or in the talented art, music, and or drama programs offered through Tangipahoa Parish School System. Extracurricular activities include Beta Club, Art Club, Student Government, Band and Accelerated Reader 50 and 100 Point Clubs.
Opportunities to take part in team sports such as basketball, track, soccer, volleyball, and cheerleading are also offered to our students.
Enrichment activities at the Lab School are offered through events such as National Library Week, the art show at Sims Memorial Library, science and social studies fairs, and various field trips. Our students also enjoy opportunities to work collaboratively with campus organizations and Hammond area community and business groups.
The Southeastern Laboratory School is the foundation of bright futures. A high percentage of our students consistently score above state and national averages on standardized tests, earn honor roll status in high school, achieve a high grade point average in college, and enjoy successful careers.
Our students' experiences and activities are conducted under the leadership of the director and faculty in cooperation and collaboration with the Southeastern Teaching and Learning personnel, educational researchers, and school board personnel.
