Southeastern choirs to join Northshore Choral Society for performance April 29

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Chorus, Concert Choir and Women’s
Chorale will join the Northshore Choral Society for “A Day of Coronations,” a performance
at St. Joseph’s Abbey, 74376 River Road in St. Benedict, Sunday, April 29.
Sponsored by the Department of Music and Performing Arts, the free performance
is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Conductors include Southeastern Music Education Instructor
Amy Prats and Director of Choral Activities Alissa Mercurio Rowe, who will direct
choirs with the assistance of Dakota Jenkins, graduate student conductor.
“The premiere mixed ensemble will open the concert with one of Victoria’s most
famous motets ‘O Magnum Mysterium,” said Rowe. “This is followed by J.S. Bach’s cantata
BWV 12 Weinen, Kleinen, Sorgen, Zagen with string orchestra and oboe solo. After a
short pause, the combined ensembles will perform Handel’s fourth Coronation Anthem,
My Heart is Inditing, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, both with full orchestra.”
