A Rewarding and Flexible Career

As a Registered Nurse you can be a bedside caregiver, leader, educator, researcher, or specialist—with flexibility to move between roles throughout your career.
1. Clinical Roles (Direct Patient Care)

• Medical-Surgical Nurse – General hospital/clinical care across specialties.
• Pediatric Nurse – Care for children and adolescents.
• Obstetrics/Labor & Delivery Nurse – Maternity, childbirth, postpartum.
• Emergency/Trauma Nurse – ER and urgent care settings.
• Intensive Care (ICU/CCU) Nurse – Critically ill or unstable patients.
• Oncology Nurse – Patients with cancer.
• Geriatric Nurse – Older adult care in hospitals, nursing homes, or community.
• Home Health/Hospice Nurse – Providing care at home, palliative and end-of-life support.
• Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse – Inpatient and outpatient mental health.

2. Non-Traditional/Expanded Roles

• Public Health Nurse – Community health, education, and prevention.
• Occupational Health Nurse – Workplace safety and employee health.
• Forensic Nurse – Works with law enforcement, collects evidence, supports victims.
• Travel Nurse – Works short-term contracts in different locations (often high pay).
• Case Manager/Utilization Review Nurse – Coordinates patient care, insurance, and discharge planning.
• Legal Nurse Consultant – Assists attorneys with medical-related legal cases.
• Informatics Nurse – Specializes in healthcare technology and electronic records.

Eligibility Requirements

• Submit your application to Southeastern by January 15 of your senior year and
  declare nursing as your intended major.
• Achieve at least a 3.7 high school GPA and earn a composite ACT score of at least 25 by January 15th of your senior year.

Program Requirements

Once admitted to the EDGE Program, students must:

• Complete all nursing prerequisite courses within three semesters.
• Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
• Earn a grade of C or higher in all nursing prerequisite courses.

Upon entering the School of Nursing, students must continue to meet all School of Nursing progression requirements to remain in the program.

This program offers a structured and supportive pathway for dedicated students to seamlessly transition into the nursing program and begin their journey toward a rewarding career in healthcare.
