Departmental Degrees

We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with concentration in Spanish Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with emphases in Broadcasting, Journalism and Speech, as well as a Master of Arts in Organizational Communication.


Languages and Communication


Our degree programs feature innovative curricula that prepare our majors for careers to meet today's workforce demands.

Our communication students receive educational opportunities in a wide range of areas, including speech fundamentals and interpersonal communication, media writing, production and direction, organizational communication, public relations, and all forms of internet and digital communication.  Our students also have access to state-of-the-art broadcast facilities.

Joe Mirando Presents CordsHonors Diploma graduate Kaylee Collier, named as one of three finalists for the Outstanding Honors Student of the Year at Southeastern, receives her Honors cords from Professor Joe Mirando, the only Master Journalism Educator in the state. 


The Foreign Language Placement Test:
If you have taken two or more years of foreign language in High School or have grown up speaking a language other than English you may seek entrance into foreign language courses numbered 102, 201, 202, and advanced level (300 and above) by receiving a passing grade on the appropriate departmental entrance test. High-Quality Faculty

Our students receive instruction from faculty who are recognized in their fields.

The department would like to congratulate Associate Professor of Communication, Dr. Claire Procopio on being awarded the Elizabeth Weeks Jones Endowed Professorship in the Humanities.

The department would also like to congratulate professor of Spanish, Dr. Agnieszka Gutthy on being awarded the Erna Deigimayr Endowed Professorship in Foreign Languages. 

Communications professor Joe Burns was honored with the 2013 President's Award for Excellence in Service.  

Italian professor Francesco Fiumara was named the 2018-2021 Erma Delglmayr Endowed Professor in Foreign Languages.
