Graduate Assistantships: Southeastern’s Office of Research and Graduate Studies offers an excellent assistantship program for graduate students. Graduate assistants receive a stipend and, in most positions, a waiver of in-state and out-of-state tuition. Dependent Fee Waiver: Spouses and children of Faculty and Staff members who are employed full-time as of the last day of registration for the semester of enrollment may attend Southeastern Louisiana University. Waiver amounts are awarded to undergraduate students only with respect to hours registered. Generally, children who qualify will be limited to those who are eligible dependents for tax purposes during the calendar year in which the fee exemption is issued.

Faculty/Staff Fee Waiver: Faculty and Staff members who are employed full-time by the last day of registration
for the semester in which enrollment is requested are eligible for a fee waiver. Waiver
amounts are awarded with respect to hours registered.

Senior Citizen Fee Waiver: Students who are 60 years of age or older (proof of date of birth is required) and are a resident of Louisiana are not charged general fees for three credit hours nor an ID fee. Other registration fees and special fees will not be waived under this policy nor will individuals enrolled under this waiver be granted reductions in cost for materials and supplies required at the University Bookstore. This fee waiver will be limited to three credit hours only. In order to receive this waiver, first-time students must apply in the Controller’s Office.

Veteran and Military Education Benefits: If you are a veteran, a dependent of a veteran (child or spouse), or a currently serving member of the United States Armed Forces, you may have funding available through the VA or Department of Defense to help you pay for college. Please refer to the Office of Military and Veteran Success and navigate to their Education Benefits page for more information. National Guard Tuition Exemption: Award amount covers the base cost of tuition for undergraduate or graduate students who are deemed eligible by the Louisiana National Guard (Army or Air) and who maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Contact the Office of Military and Veteran Success via email at [email protected] to inquire. 

Hardship Waiver:

Students who meet the following criteria may qualify for a hardship waiver:

1. Must be a Louisiana resident; and
2. must be a full-time student; and
3. must maintain continuing academic eligibility for federal financial aid; and 
4. must qualify for Pell Grant as determined by the Department of Education (undergraduate students only)
5. must have applied for, qualified for and accepted full amount offered of all forms of financial aid (as indication of the student’s financial hardship)

Students who meet the above criteria may submit a request for the hardship waiver in their Workday account.

1. Log in to Workday.
2. In the search bar at the top of the page, type in “Create Request” and press Enter.
3. Under Request Type, select “Financial Aid Hardship Waiver Request” and click OK.
4. Fill out the form and press “Submit”. 

You will receive a notification of approval or denial in your Workday within 5-7 business days after submitting your response.

Undergraduate commuters registered for at least 6 credit hours will receive the Commuter Meal Plan Scholarship for Fall 2024-Spring 2025. Qualified students do not have to apply for the scholarship. It will be automatically applied to the student’s account. The scholarship provides 10 all-you-can-eat meals at the Mane Dish plus $20 in Cub Cash which can be used at any campus dining facility, including the campus markets. Commuter Meal Plan meals and Cub Cash will expire on the last day of the Spring 2025 semester.

The program is a leadership development initiative that recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills, and a dedication to positively impacting their community. 

Applicants must:

• Students must have a completed Southeastern application on file before applying for the scholarship and plan to enroll at Southeastern the fall semester immediately after high school graduation.
• Minimum 2.75 core high school grade point average
• Must be eligible to take college-level English and Math (without co-requisite need)
• Have a proven record of leadership in high school and community activities
• Good disciplinary and academic standing

Scholarship Ammount

$500/semester for 8 semesters

Retention

The scholarship is renewable each semester based on the recipient’s continued commitment to leadership.

The SGA Hardship Scholarship is available to students facing financial difficulties due to any of the hardships listed below.

Applicants must:

• Be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more)
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 
• Must experience some type of hardship; these hardships include, but are not limited to chronic illness or disability, financial insecurities, homelessness or hunger insecurities, victims of domestic violence, etc.
• Submit a personal statement on how the scholarship would benefit them as a student with a hardship (The personal statement has a word limit of 1500)

Eligibility

The Legislative Act 353 Scholarship is available to students who are dependents of firefighters or police officers injured or killed in the line of duty, as determined by the Board of Trustees of the Firefighter’s or Police Officer’s Pension Relief Fund. Eligible dependents of firefighters may receive the scholarship for up to 10 semesters, and dependents of police officers may receive it for up to 8 semesters, provided retention requirements are met.

Students who meet the above criteria may submit a request for the Legislative Act 353 Scholarship in their Workday account.

3. Under Request Type, select “Legislative Act 353 Scholarship Request” and click OK.
4. Fill out the form, upload relevant supporting documentation, and press “Submit”. 

You will receive a notification of approval or denial in your Workday within 5-7 business days after submitting your response.

Retention

• You must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
• You must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 hours).

Scholarship Amount 

This scholarships is mandated by the state to pay all tuition, fees, housing, meal plan, and provide a stipend per semester.
