Geaux Teach Scholarship

The Louisiana Geaux Teach scholarship program was established to provide scholarships to students who are enrolled in teacher preparation programs or alternate certification programs approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) as postsecondary education institutions within the state.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen and if required, registered with the Selective Service, if applicable.
  • Must be a Louisiana resident for at least two years prior to July 1 immediately preceding the academic year of enrollment.
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each aid year
  • Must be enrolled full time in an approved teacher preparation program or alternate certification program.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative college GPA.
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Must submit the required LOSFA Geaux Teach Application Form.
  • Must not have received the award for more than four years (8 semesters).
  • Must have an uncovered balance for tuition and fees after exhausting all state and institutional resources. Please note, this does not include any federal aid you may also receive. See example below.

What costs are covered?

Scholarship awards shall be applicable only to the cost of tuition, required fees, and textbooks and instructional materials required for the course of study. The award shall be used only after all other state or institutional financial aid and awards are applied and only for any remaining balance due for tuition, required fees, and textbooks and instructional materials required for the course of study.

Award Retention

Students must meet the following requirements each semester to receive payment for Geaux Teach:

  • Must be enrolled full-time on the 15th day of class each semester.
  • Must earn a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of each Fall, Spring and all Interim sessions.
  • Must maintain continuous enrollment through consecutive fall and spring semesters.
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress or have an approved SAP appeal file.
  • Must have an uncovered balance for tuition and fees after exhausting all state and institutional resources. Please note, this does not include any federal aid you may also receive.
  • Must not have received the award for more than four years (8 semesters).

  • Students must become familiar with Retention Requirements.
  • Geaux Teach Scholarship is a 4-year award.
  • If a student loses Geaux Teach eligibility, he/she can apply to have the circumstances considered.
