Department of Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at Southeastern offers a broad range of classes in various mathematical disciplines and have several active research programs. The Department offers a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a choice of five concentrations leading to a variety of career paths. We also oversee the instruction of mathematics service courses to all other degree programs on campus.

Department Highlights

  • Recent graduates hold jobs in fields such as data analytics, actuarial science, systems analysts, banking, and more.

  • The department participates in an interdisciplinary master's degree program in Integrated Science and Technology.

  • The department provides extensive outreach to regional high schools through our Dual Enrollment Program.

Alan Cannon – President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

What makes an effective teacher? Opinions on the subject vary, but Alan Cannon, this year’s winner of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, says for him it’s being well-prepared for class, willingness to modify evaluation methods, and efforts to prepare freshmen and sophomores for upper-level courses.
