Students majoring in Psychology may choose to complete a concentration, which provides depth and breadth of knowledge in a particular area of Psychology. These specialized curricula are designed to prepare students interested in bachelor-level careers with skills that can enhance their occupational opportunities and to provide training for advanced studies.
Our Psychology Department offers 3 curricula. The two concentration curriculums are available starting catalog year 2017-2018.
Standard Curriculum in Psychology – This curriculum is intended for most psychology majors; the curriculum provides a solid foundation in psychology and is the most flexible of the three curriculums. With 18 hours of psychology electives and 15 hours of free electives students are able to tailor their coursework to meet their specific interests and goals. This path prepares students for graduate school and for a wide variety of entry employment positions.
Applied Behavior Analysis Concentration Curriculum – This concentration is recommended for psychology majors who are interested in becoming certified assistant behavior analysts upon graduation or pursuing further graduate study in applied behavior analysis. This concentration is also appropriate for students seeking expertise in learning principles and their application. This concentration is not intended for those planning to graduate spring 2020 or earlier.
Industrial / Organizational Psychology Concentration Curriculum – This concentration is recommended for psychology majors who are interested in working in business or industry upon graduation or pursuing further graduate study in industrial organizational psychology. This concentration is also appropriate for students seeking understanding of psychological principles as applied to the workforce and those considering pursuing an MBA.
