Mrs Rebekah “Bekki” Starns, MSN, FNP-C is an Instructor of Nursing at Southeastern Louisiana University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1999. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2014.

As a Registered Nurse, Mrs. Starns became an expert in post-operative care, working in PACU, surgical ICU, and med/surg inpatient units. She obtained certifications in postoperative care and IV therapy. She was instrumental in the development of the first bedside RN-led PICC placement team in Louisiana. She also has clinical experience in substance abuse/detox treatment, postpartum couplet care, and travel nursing.

Following the completion of her Master's Degree, she practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner in occupational health and primary care. Mrs. Starns’s role as an advanced practice registered nurse led her to the specialty of wound medicine in 2016. She is a nationally Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) who focuses on the treatment of chronic non-healing wounds and limb salvage. She has also practiced as a hospice clinician for nearly a decade.

Area of Expertise

Prior to her academic appointment, Mrs. Starns has had a fulfilling career that encompasses bedside nursing, mentoring, education, patient advocacy, and professional development, with expertise in wound management, surgical services, and hospice care. All of these attributes she applies to the role of Instructor in the College of Nursing. Recently, she has achieved national certification as a Clinical Certified Nurse Educator (CNEcl).
