HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Honors and Excellance
celebrated its top students recently at an award ceremony held on campus.
Honors Freshman of the Year finalists are students who began their studies in
the fall of 2023. There were nominated by a member of the honors faculty and selected
by an essay evaluation and interview panel process.
In order to earn Senior Honors Distinction, students must complete a self-directed
prospectus course in the junior year, earn nine hours of upper-level honors credits,
including at least one special topics honors seminar, and have an outstanding grade
point average.
Honors Medal recipients are students who have earned 15 hours of core credit,
nine hours of upper-level honors credit, and successfully authored and defended an
honors thesis.
Also recognized at the awards ceremony as Honors Professor of the Year was Chemistry
and Physics Instructor Georgina Little. She was selected by the Honors Student Association
as a nominee and then voted for the honor by the students in the College of Honors
and Excellence.

BELLE CHASSE – Lorelei Brewer, Freshman of the Year finalist.
CHALMETTE – Bailey Milburn, Honors Medal recipient, mathematics.
COVINGTON – Hunter Galmiche, Honors Medal recipient, chemistry; and James Lee, Honors
Medal recipient, biology.
DENHAM SPRINGS – Meghan Persick, Honors Freshman of the Year; Claudia Romero, Senior
Honors Distinction and Honors Medal recipient, psychology; and Carlee Normand, Honors
Medal recipient, psychology.
HAMMOND – Lucky Ameh, Honors Freshman of the Year finalist; and Fobrunsho Kukoyi,
Honors Freshman of the Year finalist.
JACKSON – Tanner Fooshee, Honors Medal recipient, communication.
LIVINGSTON – Sara Cavalier, Senior Honors Distinction.
MARRERO – Christina Hoover, Senior Honors Distinction.
PONCHATOULA – Devin Schwaibold, Senior Honors Distinction and Honors Medal recipient,

SLIDELL – Victoria DeBarbieris, Phi Kappa Phi Honors Student of the Year.
WALKER – Ava Pitarro, Honors Freshman of the Year finalist.

recently at the College of Honors and Excellence’s recognition ceremony. Fooshee received
the Honors Medal.
2) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF HONORS AND EXCELLENCE RECOGNIZES STUDENTS (Jefferson) --
Southeastern Louisiana University student Christina Hoover of Marrero, was honored
recently at the College of Honors and Excellence’s recognition ceremony. Hoover was
recognized as a Freshman of the Year finalist.

the Honors Medal.
5) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF HONORS AND EXCELLENCE RECOGNIZES STUDENTS (St. Tammany)
-- Southeastern Louisiana University student Victoria DeBarbieris of Slidell, was
honored recently at the College of Honors and Excellence’s recognition ceremony. DeBarbieris
was selected as the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Student of the Year.
6) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF HONORS AND EXCELLENCE RECOGNIZES STUDENTS (Tangipahoa)
-- Southeastern Louisiana University student Devin Schwaibold of Ponchatoula, was
honored recently at the College of Honors and Excellence’s recognition ceremony. Schwaibold
received Senior Honors Distinction and was an Honors Medal recipient.
