In addition to traditional degree programs, Southeastern offers alternate and add-on certification programs through non-master's and graduate programs. The College of Education also collaborates with the Tangipahoa Parish School Board to oversee the Southeastern Louisiana University Laboratory School on campus.
Southeastern's alternate certification programs are designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor's or graduate degree in another field and who seek to qualify for state teacher certification. Depending upon the grade level selected, individuals may obtain a master's degree or complete a certification-only program. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) prepares teachers for certification in Grades 1-5 and Special Education: Early Intervention (Birth to 5 years). The Certification-Only Alternate Program prepares teachers for certification in grades K-12, 6-12, or Birth-Age 5.
Certified teachers in Louisiana may add-on additional certifications to their teaching certificate by completing requirements found in Bulletin 746: Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel. Click here to learn more about available Add-on certifications.
