In addition to traditional degree programs, Southeastern offers alternate and add-on certification programs through non-master's and graduate programs. The College of Education also collaborates with the Tangipahoa Parish School Board to oversee the Southeastern Louisiana University Laboratory School on campus.
Southeastern's alternate certification programs are designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor's or graduate degree in another field and who seek to qualify for state teacher certification. Depending upon the grade level selected, individuals may obtain a master's degree or complete a certification-only program. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) prepares teachers for certification in Grades 1-5. The Certification-Only Alternate Program prepares teachers for certification in grades K-12, 6-12, or Birth-Age 5.
Programs leading to the Post Baccalaureate Certificate for Add-On Certification are available only to those students who currently hold a valid Louisiana teaching certificate. Students must apply for admission through the Office of Graduate Admissions as a non degree graduate student in the category of Add-On Certification and in the area of the Add-On Certification. Students completing each of the programs listed will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from the State of Louisiana, and will also be eligible to have the certification added to their Louisiana teaching certificate.
The Southesatern Laboratory School is very unique in the sense that we are a collaborative effort of the Tangipahoa Parish School System and Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development. Our school is accredited by the Louisiana State Department of Education and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
