Helpful Resources for Faculty

Distance Education Policy

The Distance Education (DE) Policy provides faculty and administration with all requirements relating to teaching using any delivery format other than face-to-face. This policy is the driving force behind everything we do at Southeastern Online. We follow this policy and assist faculty, programs, and administration to ensure courses are in line with standards set by the university.

TO@S Course

The Teaching Online at Southeastern course provides faculty with the skills and best practices for teaching courses in Online or Hybrid formats and is required by the DE policy. SACSCOC’s Distance Education and Correspondence Courses policy requires universities to train faculty teaching or planning to teach using online or hybrid modalities.

Accessibility

Accessibility is not optional and is a requirement from the U.S. Department of Education. Southeastern Online staff ensure the accessibility of online and hybrid courses through Quality Matters @ Southeastern (QM@S), and we are here to help. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights video series can help you become more knowledgeable about accessibility and why it matters. These videos are short and contain valuable information. Please visit the OCR Video Series and view the videos as you have time. We recommend bookmarking the videos. Let us know if we can help you make your content more accessible for all learners.

Another quick resource available to you is the Accessibility Quick Tips PDF that provides concise tips to ensure your course content and all related files are accessible for all students. The document has a quick tip for text, audio, video, images, links, and PDFs.

QM@S Rubric

The QM@S Rubric Overview PDF provides specific review standards for Southeastern Louisiana University and is based on the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric, Seventh Edition. According to SACSCOC’s Distance Education and Correspondence Courses policy, the university is required to use a measurement tool to assess our online and hybrid courses. Southeastern uses the Quality Matters rubric to ensure the quality of all online and hybrid courses to adhere to the Distance Education policy.

Request a Design & Development Workbook

If you need to submit a course for a QM@S review, you will need to request a D&D workbook. The workbook is filled with helpful information and additional resources, but you only need to use the Instructor Worksheet to submit your course.

Recorded Workshops

This page provides recorded workshops on topics related to online teaching best practices: course design, alignment, accessibility, instructor presence, and promoting student engagement.

Course Checklist

The Course Checklist PDF is a checklist of course components faculty may review before submitting any course for a QM@S review. Make sure all of the items are in your course before you submit it.

Semester Checklist

Use the Semester Checklist for a complete list of items to do and/or check before, during, and after each semester to update your online or hybrid course with he most current information and technology.
