HAMMOND – Ann Carruth, dean of the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences, has been appointed to serve as the grassroots liaison for Louisiana for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

AACN is a nonpartisan organization that works to educate and advocate for nursing education, research and practice.

Carruth is one of a group of 78 nurses throughout the nation selected to help keep the organization informed on state legislative issues related to nursing education and research and advise the group on educational needs of the profession. She will serve a two-year appointment in the position.

She recently participated in the organization's fall meeting, in which the participants visited the offices of members of Congress to educate their staffs on funding to support nursing education and research.

A resident of Hammond, Carruth has served on Southeastern's nursing faculty since 1990 and was appointed dean last year. She serves as a member of the board of commissioners of North Oaks Health System and the Northshore Healthcare Alliance. She also serves as chairperson for Research and Informatics and board member for the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
