HAMMOND – Just in time for mid-semester, Southeastern Louisiana University students can have an academic check-up during the university's Academic Wellness Week scheduled March 11-13 in the new Student Union.

Sponsored by the Southeastern Center for Student Excellence, the free event includes an Academic Wellness Fair and workshops on time management, positive thinking, how to choose a major and tips on financial aid. All events will be held in the Grand Ballroom, located on the third floor of the Student Union.

"As one of many strategies stemming from considerations by our Student Retention Task Force, Academic Wellness Week is a perfect example of Southeastern's focus on student success, from the day students apply until their graduation day," said Tammy Bourg, Provost and vice president for academic affairs.

"This is a good time for students who may be seeking some balance in their lives and perhaps need to get back on track after the Mardi Gras break," said Dorothy Nelson, director of the Center for Student Excellence. "Advisors from various areas of the campus will be on hand to offer their assistance to students."

The schedule includes:

-- Academic Wellness Fair, Tuesday, March 11, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m. Advisors from the Center for Student Excellence, the Tinsley Learning Center and offices such as Housing, Financial Aid, Student Accessibility Services and several others will be on hand to answer questions or provide advice.

-- Concurrent workshops every 30 minutes: Making Your Time Count; and Positively Powerful – Thinking Your Way to Success, Wednesday, March 12, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m.

-- Concurrent workshops every 30 minutes: Choosing a Major; and Don't Lose Your TOPS ... or Other Financial Aid, Thursday, March 13, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m.
