Southeastern announces 2014 Homecoming Court and Beau Court

HAMMOND – Fourteen Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen as members of the 2014 Homecoming queen and beau courts. The seven women and seven men will reign over Homecoming festivities Oct. 13- 18.

Chosen as members of the queen court were seniors Jasmine Tate, Franklinton; Mallory Sparacello, McComb, Miss.; Alyssa Robert, Mandeville; and Katherine Weimer, Thibodaux; junior Randi Olivier, Houma; and sophomores Maria Goddard, New Orleans; and Taylor Poche, St. Amant.

Members of the beau court are seniors Cody LeJeune, New Roads; Vince Diez, Jr., Gonzales; Michael L. Vinsanau Jr., Chalmette; Leland Yates, Franklinton; and Thomas Moore IV, Baton Rouge; and juniors Nicholas Nelson, Ponchatoula; and Donavan Thierry, Lake Charles.

The 2014 queen and beau, the top junior or senior vote-getters in the recent online campus election, will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game when the Lions take on Central Arkansas on Homecoming Day, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

The court also will participate in Homecoming festivities such as Gumbo YaYa on Oct. 15, the bonfire and pep rally on Oct. 16, and the 3 p.m. Homecoming Day parade.

Goddard, a communication major, is a member of the Catholic Student Association and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). She is community service director of PRSSA and a staff reporter for the student newspaper "The Lion's Roar." She was also on the President's List for fall 2013 and spring 2014.

Olivier majors in communication sciences and disorders. She is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, where she received the Phi Mu Advisor's Choice Award and Outstanding Sophomore Award, and the Student Government Association (SGA), where she serves as Leadership Council Director. She is a 2014 Orientation Leader, a member of Ducks Unlimited, Kappa Alpha Order's Rose Court and was a 2013 Division of Student Affairs Leadership Ambassador.

Poche, a nursing major, is a member Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, the Lionette Dance Team, SLU Best Buddies Chapter, and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. She has been recognized on the President's List the past two semesters and was recently accepted into the Southeastern School of Nursing.

Robert, an English education major, is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, where she has served as president, the National Society of Leadership and Success and Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society.

Sparacello, a nursing major, is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, where she has served as chapter vice president of membership recruitment, received the Pearl and Ruby Slipper Sisterhood, perfect attendance and academic achievement awards, and was named Sweetheart for 2013-14. She is also a two-year member the Student Nurses Association and is currently in her third semester in Southeastern's nursing program.

Tate is a communication major. She founded and is president of Southeastern's Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. She is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Colleges Against Cancer, Spanish Club, Press Club, NAACP, and National Society of Leadership and Success. She has worked for "The Lion's Roar" and "Le Souvenir" yearbook, where she serves as assistant editor. She was named 2014 Role Model of the Year, received the 2014 Vice President's Award for Student Excellence, and was 3rd runner up, Miss Congeniality and Miracle Maker in the 2014 Miss Southeastern pageant.

Weimer is a biology major. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, where she serves as chapter jeweler. She is the SGA Director of Student Advancement Research, secretary of Delta Omega Alpha Points, and Order of Omega treasurer. She was named Miss Congeniality of her pledge class, was named Outstanding Panhellenic New Member, and is the recipient of the Green 'S' Award.

Diez is a business management major. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Order, Ducks Unlimited, and is the SGA appropriation's chairman. He served as the 2012 and 2013 Homecoming Sweepstakes chairman and champion, the 2013 Greek Week chairman and champion and the 2013 Gumbo Cook-off Champion. Diez was also on the Dean's List for fall 2013.

LeJeune is a human resource management major. He is member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Society for Human Resource Management. He is a previous Division of Student Affairs Leadership Ambassador and an Interfraternity Council delegate. He has been named to both the President's and Dean's Lists and is the recipient of the Honesty and Integrity Award from the Masonic Society.

Moore, a business management major, is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Student United Way, the Black Student Union and the NAACP. He has served as a Project Pull mentor and was named to the honor roll in spring 2014. Moore received the Man of Distinction Award in 2012 and was a finalist for the Role Model of the Year in 2014.

Nelson is an integrative biology major. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, where he serves as chapter vice president, received the highest grade point average of the chapter in 2013, and was named Outstanding Committee Chair in 2013. He is also a member of Delta Omega Alpha Biology Undergraduate Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Nelson has been on the President's list since the fall of 2012.

Thierry, a psychology major, is a 2014 Orientation Leader and a Division of Student Affairs Leadership Ambassador. He is a member of PEEPS, the Black Student Union, and From Start 2 Finish. Thierry is also the recipient of the 2014 Spirit of Orientation Award, 2013-14 Mr. From Start 2 Finish, and the 2012 NAACP Rising Star and Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.

Vinsanau is a communication major and member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he sits on the Executive Board. He is also a member of the Press Club and works with the Southeastern Channel, where he helped the station to win Best in the South. He was nominated for a Green 'S' Award and has been named to the Dean's list.

Yates, a finance major, is a member of Theta Chi fraternity, where he serves on the executive board. He is a member and president of the Order of Omega. Yates has also served as first vice president of the Intrafraternal Council and as treasurer of the Financial Management Association. He has been named to the President's and Dean's lists from 2012-2014.
