HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center
will work with several area partners to host a seminar on the use of the search engine
Google by businesses on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Scheduled in Amite at the Tangipahoa Parish Library, 204 N.E. Central Avenue,
the seminar, titled “Get Found on Google Search and Maps,” is scheduled from 9 to
10:30 a.m.
Co-sponsors of the event include the Amite Chamber of Commerce, Tangipahoa Economic
Development, Tangipahoa Parish Library, SCORE Northsore, 5 Stones Media and local
Google photographer J.R. Portman.
Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Small Business Development Center, said
Google Maps is one of the most popular and regularly used apps in the world, and businesses
with complete online listings on Google are twice as likely to be considered reputable
by consumers.
“Since putting your business on Google Maps makes it easier for people to find
and connect with your business online, we are looking to help make sure your business
information is on the map and is attracting customers,” she said. “In this workshop,
our local Google expert will walk participants step-by-step through the process of
creating, optimizing and managing a Google business listing.”
Summers said participants are encouraged to bring a fully charged laptop or mobile
device to complete a listing in class. By the end of the class, participants will
have a listing set up and ready to connect with online searchers.
There is no cost to attend the seminar, but pre-registration is encouraged since
the workshop comes with free Google swag and is expected to fill up early. Registration
is available online at www.lsbdc.org/events.
