HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) at Southeastern
Louisiana University will host a seminar on franchising on Tuesday, July 12, from
9 to 11 a.m.
Co-sponsored by the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation and the St. Tammany
West Chamber of Commerce, the free program, titled “Business in a Box – Franchising
for Entrepreneurial Success” will be held at the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce,
located at 610 Hollycrest Blvd. in Covington.
Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Southeastern SBDC, said the educational
workshop will look at pre-formatted franchise ownership solutions to help leverage
existing business models to ramp-up faster and mitigate risk. The program will also
look at benefits of training/mentoring, attaining marketing assistance, staffing and
other support, and leveraging scales of economy and collective knowledge.
“This is a good way to see if franchises have ready-made formulas that may be
right for you,” she said. “Specialists with FranNet will compare business models,
detail basics of franchising, bust its myths and address whether and/or how it can
suit you.”
Summers said the event will address topics such as best practices for finding
a business that matches needs and budget; low cost options/financing vehicles; comparison
of business ownership models; franchise ownership rewards and risks; and best opportunities
for full or part-time owner involvement.
