HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will host a free seminar in Covington July 26 titled “Cyber Threat Awareness for Business.”
Co-sponsored with the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation, and Northshore SCORE, the seminar is scheduled from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, located at 610 Hollycrest Blvd. in Covington.
“This highly informative briefing will be followed by a workshop and facilitated discussion regarding practical steps that can be taken immediately to reduce your business’s cyber exposure, while potentially saving money on business liability insurance,” said Assistant Director of the SBCD Sandy Summers.
Summers said the seminar will also provide take-away checklists and policy templates relating to cyber security awareness that can be shared with employees to increase the ability to withstand cyber trickery.
Guest speakers for the event are CJ George of First Maridian and Drew Watts of the FBI Cyber Intrusion Task Force.
“This is rare opportunity to hear from cyber security experts about actual threats occurring in our area,” she said. “You are going to be surprised at what you hear.”
Summers said attendees will also learn practical tips that can immediately be applied to help reduce business exposure to and recover from phishing attacks, malware, social engineering, ransomeware and Trojans, such as WannaCry, CryptoLocker and similar threats active today, as well as unintended modification or corruption of data.
Although the seminar is free, seating is only guaranteed for pre-registered attendees. For more information or to register, call 985-892-3216 or log on to www.lsbdc.org.
